As everyone is aware, this past friday was halloween. Now whether your plans were go to go a bar, party or trick-or-treating you had to dress up. Now this doesnt sound like an issue, unless you are a girl. I had noticed in the parties i went to this weekend, the outfits were shorter, tighter and littler. The boys at the party however were in jerseys, cartoon costumes, pimps...essentially comfortable and warm clothing. The girls, shivering and uncomfortable didnt seem to mind. However when a girl passed with a regular costume, like say a girl in the Average Joes costume, they said snide remarks about her.
I guess the point im trying to get at is this, why are girls comstumes so much more sexualized then men, and how is this any different then a regular day here on campus? Since when did being a "sexy school girl" or "slutty cop" become our goal on halloween. I thought it was to be a different person. So i sugest next halloween we have the men where the "sexy school girl" and "Slutty cop" uniforms and we will where the jerseys and cartoon costumes. However i will give one of my friends credit, he dressed up as a "sexy nurse". And dont get me wrong, i fell into the same trap as the rest of the girls, however i wasnt left with many other choices.

I noticed the same thing this Halloween. I was the only one who was not dressed "skank-like" at the party and the looks I got from boys and almost every girl seemed less than approving. It reminded me of the scene in Mean Girls when Lindsay Lohan was the only one dressed up as something scary, and the disapproval she got. I think if girls are expected to wear next to nothing in the freezing cold, the guys should step up and do the same.
As one of my friends said about Halloween: "It's the one time a year you can dress like a slut, and get away with it". This is the mind set that most girls have now a days. I refrained from going to any parties on Halloween, but I did see some costumes in the stores. You see people paying money for something that barely even covers their bottom, but unfortunately that's in style. Personally, I think that they're giving the wrong message to guys, and leaving almost nothing to the imagination anymore.
